Cardiff Blues have received notification from the ERC regarding incidents involving Xavier Rush and Richie Rees during last Sunday's Round 4 Heineken Cup match.
A statement issued by the ERC Reads:
Xavier Rush Red Card
An independent Disciplinary Hearings will be held on Wednesday, 22 December, as a result of a red card issued in the ERC match last weekend.
Xavier Rush, the Cardiff Blues player (No 8) received a red card during the Heineken Cup Pool 1 match against Northampton Saints at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, 19 December.
The red card was issued in the 55th minute of the second half by referee Jerome Garces (France) for a dangerous tackle above the line of the shoulders on Northampton Saints lock Courtney Lawes (No 4) in contravention of Law 10.4 (e).
The hearing will be held in Bristol and the independent Judicial Officer appointed for the hearing is Christopher Quinlan (England).
Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous tackle - A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously
Under the IRB Recommended Sanctions for Offences Committed within the Playing Enclosure, Law 10.4 (e) – Dangerous tackle carries the following penalties:
Lower End: 2 weeks
Middle Range: 6 weeks
Top End: 10+ weeks
Maximum Sanction: 52 weeks
Richie Rees Citing Complaint
ERC have received a Citing Complaint following the Round 4 Heineken Cup match played on 19 December, 2010.
The Citing Complaints is against:
Richie Rees (No 9) – Cardiff Blues (v Northampton Saints at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, 19 December, 2010)
Rees is alleged to have made contact with the eyes / eye area of Northampton Saints hooker Dylan Hartley (No 2), during the first-half
Law 10.4(m) ‘Contact with the eye / eye area; Acts contrary to good sportsmanship’
IRB recommended sanction - Low End: 12 weeks; Mid Range: 18 weeks: Top End: 24+ weeks; Maximum: 156 weeks
The Independent Judicial Officer and a date for the hearings will be announced in due course.
