Wilson: We must raise the bar once more

15th December 2015

Head Coach Danny Wilson has told his Cardiff Blues they will must 'raise their performance' to even greater heights when they face Montpellier at the Altrad Stadium on Thursday evening (kick-off 8.45pm local time).

Cardiff Blues head to the South of France for Thursday night’s big European Rugby Challenge Cup clash with qualification hopes still high.

A stunning comeback 37-27 win over the powerful French side at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park last Friday night moved Wilson’s men back into second spot in the standings behind Harlequins.

The Head Coach knows only victory may be good enough to keep Cardiff Blues in the hunt for the knockout stages – but getting that will be no easy feat against a Montpellier side hurting from the defeat less than a week ago.

“French teams at home and French teams away can be two different prospects,” warned Wilson.

“We are confident and pleased with result we got at home, but we won’t be sat back thinking because we did that we can go there and just do the same.

“We need to raise our performance and play far better; we must concede less away from home.

He added: “I am really pleased with the pack of forwards that played last Friday and there will be an opportunity for a couple of others to feature on Thursday night. We’ll see where we are in terms of depth.

“We scored two driving lineouts, our scrum was solid for the majority of the night against a huge scrum. We all saw what they did to Harlequins before they played us.

“It’s been nice to come into training on the back of two wins under our belts and with confidence and smiles on faces too. Hopefully we can now snowball that to gain even confidence and momentum.”
