Williams San Francisco-bound for Sevens World Cup

16th July 2018

Lloyd Williams has been selected in Wales' squad for this weekend's Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

The tournament will be held at the iconic AT&T Park - the home of Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants - and will be broadcasted on ITV.

Williams, who has 28 caps for Wales in the 15-a-side game, was a regular for his country on the Sevens circuit during the early stages of his career.

The scrum half is joined by four of his former Cardiff Blues team-mates, including experienced World Series players Owen Jenkins and Ben Roach, captain Adam Thomas and Cory Allen, who is now contracted to Ospreys.

Gareth Williams' side will look to emulate the success of 2009, where Wales were named World Champions, following a thrilling final victory over Argentina in Dubai.

The Class of 2009 included Dafydd Hewitt, Tal Selley, Aled Brew and Tom Isaacs, who all represented Wales' Capital Region during their careers, while coach Paul John was also a member of the backroom staff before moving to work with Hong Kong Sevens in 2017.

Wales Sevens: Luke Treharne, Ethan Davies, Lloyd Williams, Luke Morgan, Owen Jenkins, Tom Williams, Cory Allen, Afon Bagshaw, Adam Thomas, Cai Devine, Jared Rosser, Ben Roach. Travelling Reserve: Will Talbot-Davies.
