Warburton: Great to be back at Blues

14th February 2014

Flanker Sam Warburton admits he can hardly wait to pull on the jersey of Cardiff Blues this Saturday against Glasgow Warriors (kick-off 6.30pm) - as he looks for match fitness before the resumption of the 6 Nations.

Warburton and international team-mate Gethin Jenkins are back in the starting line-up for Blues as they chase RaboDirect PRO12 points against Glasgow.

The dynamic back row returned to action from injury off the bench against Italy before getting a full 80 minutes under his belt at the Aviva Stadium last weekend.

“I’m looking forward to playing this weekend, it’s a win, win situation” he said.

“Hopefully I can help them pick up some points in the league and for me I get the benefit of getting some more miles in the legs as well.

“It will be great to be back and put the blue jersey back on.  I haven’t played for them since October so it’s been a good few months so it will be nice to be back out there.

“The defeat out in Munster was disappointing but we have got a home game, in front of our fans and it’s a great chance to pick up some points."

Warburton and the rest of the Wales squad will meet back up on Sunday to continue their preparations for the game against France.

The visitors have a good record of championship success in seasons following British and Irish Lions tours but Warburton doesn’t think that will have an impact this time around.

“Looking back, 8, 12, 16 years ago the off season for players was very short, now it is so well managed I don’t think it will be an excuse.

“The regions and the national squad have looked after players so well on their return I don’t think it’s going to have an impact this time around.

“We are just focused on going out and putting in a performance we know we can.”
