Under 16's Blues South 29 Ospreys 32

1st March 2012

Blues South Under 16 saw a 16 point lead slip away as the Ospreys claimed the Under 16s championship crown

The South made all the early running and were rewarded in the fifth minute with a penalty that Callum Sheedy slotted. The South were showing their intent and with plenty of possession they looked most likely to be the next to score. Tyler Williams was almost put through a hole in the defence before being brought down just short of the line.

Sheedy had an opportunity to extend but was just short with a long range penalty but the South were not to be denied a score as from the resulting lineout a backs move put Tyler Williams in space. He spotted the overlap and put James Whittingham over in the corner.

Like Price got the Ospreys on the board with a well judged penalty but the South were to score again two minutes later. A mistake at the visitors lineout was pounced upon by Shane Young. The forwards set up a maul and Rory Bartle was able to ground the ball, Sheedy added the conversion.

The South were now in the mood, and Tyler Williams was next on the score sheet. Quick hands created the space for Young to go forward and his superbly timed pass to Williams put him in under the posts, Sheedy again adding the conversion.

When the Ospreys did have the ball they did get the score, Price adding a dropped goal just before half time

The second half started in a similar vein to the first. Tyler Williams increased the lead after a break by Whittingham. The Ospreys though were not going to lie down and be dictated to. The got a try back when full back Lewis Evans found space out wide to score a try that seemed to inspire the visitors.

The South were making a lot of unforced errors and this let the Ospreys gain field position. From a five metre lineout the initial drive was repelled, but when the ball went wide Matyn Davies was on hand to score under the posts, Price added the extras.

Two minutes later and the visitors should have scored Another South mistake gave the visitors the ball, only a knock on short of the line prevented the try. The try though did come shortly after Joe Thomas slicing his way through the defence to score under the posts, Price again added the conversion.

The Ospreys were now all over the South and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Wing Jordan Adderley making the most of a huge overlap to score in the corner. Price’s conversion gave the visitors a three point lead that they were to hold on to until the end.
