U16's Blues South 5 Blues North 20

12th September 2008

Wednesday evening saw the latest national regional u16 championship fixture for the Cardiff Blues North U16'S.

Taffs Well RFC was the venue for an exciting and sometimes attritional local derby between the North U16’s and their counterparts from the South, in a tense opening quarter there was very little to choose between the sides  and it was the South who opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a try from speedy winger Harry Robinson which went unconverted.

This stung the Blues north into action and following a series of concerted drives through forwards Will Griff John, Ellis Jenkins and Darran Harris, Hooker Jonathan Elley was on hand in support of prop Tom Jones to power over, Lewis Williams unfortunately hit the post with his wide angled conversion attempt, there then followed a period of adjustment for the Blues North as they had to cope with losing scrum half Lewis Jones to the sin bin after a bout of ill discipline, Full back Chris Edwards stepping into the role of scrum half.

Just after the half hour the North increased its lead Darran Harris crossing near the posts the ice cool Williams this time making no mistake when adding the conversion

Half time BLUES SOUTH 5 BLUES NORTH 12

The south started the second half brightly with several promising darts that had the 14 man North defence stretched to say the least, however with the reintroduction of transgressor Jones the North eventually started to gain the upper hand with a stronger set piece proving vital.

On the hour substitute hooker Jack Dando plunged over to stretch the North’s lead following a successful penalty kicked earlier by Lewis Williams, the north continued with there development policy using most of their substitutes finishing the game strongly in their toughest encounter to date.
