Tiny's Choice - December

19th December 2004

Christmas has come early for Mike Rein as he has been awarded the Tiny’s Choice Award for the month of December.

As most Junior Blues will be well aware now, the award is given for ‘Outstanding contribution to, or participation in, grass roots rugby in the Blues Region’ and Mike, Deputy Head teacher at St Francis RC School, has more than matched the requisites as a recipient.

Mike has been nominated for the award by Gruff Rees who commented, “I can fully endorse Mike's nomination for the Tiny's choice Award. He is a staunch supporter of the Capital Rugby scheme, and testament to this is the fact Mike regularly brings 4 sides from St. Francis RC Junior School to Tag Festivals which provides numerous opportunities to all the boys and girls in year 5 and 6 in the school.”

In addition to the work that Mike contributes through St Francis, he is a tireless worker for Cardiff Schools U11's as the secretary, a role in which in which he also takes responsibility for the administration and organisation of the under 11 representative side which has contested the DC Thomas Cup final at the Millennium Stadium over the past 5 seasons.

This work is also complemented by his work as Assistant Secretary and Representative for the Welsh Schools Junior Group, a position he has held since 1989.

Gruff has been amazed at the numerous roles that Mike has held down, saying, “All in all, such an award is more than appropriate as recognition of the time, commitment and effort that Mike has put into rugby development in the community and with representative rugby in Cardiff.”

Mike was presented with his award by Dave Bryon, Managing Director of bmibaby, during half time at the Blues v Gloucester match last weekend.
