Mid May saw the Blues reach out to the furthest part of the region.
Future Blues Development Officers Carl Scales and Ben Rose liaised with Trefclawdd RFC stalwart Dave Powell for their first ever Future Blues TAG Festival. The event was further supported by the local community who provided refreshments and tickets to the local fair for all the children.
Schools were invited to compete from the surrounding area and six teams entered from Whitton Primary School, Presteigne Primary School, Beguildy CinW School and Knighton CinW School. The aim of the Festival was to increase the profile of Trefclawdd RFC within the area and to establish a mini section within the club.
Blues Community Coaches Martin Webdale and Haval Ibrahim welcomed the children with a skills and warm up session. This allowed the children to have an insight into the skills needed for TAG rugby as many had never played the game. After this the schools all played against each other in a round robin TAG Festival. The coaches said that the level of skill shown was excellent with many children showing a natural talent for the game.
Cath Humphries of Whitton Primary commented It was a fantastic afternoon, with a lovely atmosphere and all children enjoying themselves. Furthermore, It was an excellent opportunity for children to participate in our national sport something we do not have opportunity to do being such a small school.
With no added pressure of winners or losers the tournament allowed everyone to participate and enjoy themselves Stated Ben Rose Future Blues Development Officer. He went on to say all children who participate with go home with a Blues certificate of achievement and some blues merchandise. Wwe hope this event will continue to grow year on year.
A great day was had by all and everyone went home chanting a screaming for Cardiff Blues. Needless to say it was a great success and well worth the Blues reaching out to the furthest corners of their region. Following the festival all the schools are going to be invited to Cardiff Arms Park home of the Blues to play in the Blues North TAG Festival on July 11th and 12th. Good luck to all the teams that attend.
