Welsh classical singer and 2007 X Factor runner up, Rhydian Roberts, will perform live at a gala dinner event in aid of NSPCC Cymru/Wales' Building Brighter Futures Appeal at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday 2 July
Rhydian will perform to an expected audience of 500 guests at the black tie dinner, who will also enjoy a sumptuous three course meal, auction prizes and a raffle.
This is the second year running that Cardiff City Football Club and the Cardiff Blues have supported the event. Steve Borley, director of Cardiff City and Peter Thomas, chairman of Caridff Blues will co-host the black tie dinner in aid of the children’s charity. It is hoped funds raised from this year’s event will exceed the £90,000 raised in 2009.
Rhydian said: "I'm delighted to take part in this event. I had a very happy childhood in Wales, but I know that not all children are so lucky. The work done by the NSPCC is critical in helping to keep children safe. It's so important that children and young people know that there is somewhere to turn, and that help is there for them when they need it. I hope that everyone will do what they can to support the NSPCC, and I hope that by performing at this event, I can do my bit".
Sir Stanley Thomas OBE, chair of the Building Brighter Futures Appeal said: “I am thrilled that Rhydian has kindly agreed to perform at the gala dinner in aid of the NSPCC’s Building Brighter Futures Appeal. It is sure to be an exciting and entertaining evening.
“It is thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended last year’s event and supporters and donors from the wider community, that the NSPCC was able to open its new flagship centre for Wales, Diane Engelhardt House, in December 2009. This new centre based in Cardiff enables the children’s charity to reach out to many more children and young people who have suffered emotional, physical and sexual abuse, as well as continue the pioneering work of its domestic abuse service.”
Whilst the doors of the new centre for Wales are now open, the NSPCC still urgently needs to continue to raise funds to allow it to develop its services even further. The appeal has raised more than £3 million to date, but a further £1.5 million is needed to ensure that the charity can continue to make a fundamental difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people across Wales.
