Normandale locks down new contract

5th February 2015

Lock star and LV=Cup hero Miles Normandale has pledged his future to Cardiff Blues after signing a new contract at the region.

Normandale – who grabbed a stunning injury time try in the thrilling comeback victory over Wasps last weekend – has agreed a new two-year deal to extend his stay at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park until at least 2017.

The impressive 23-year-old – who has made a total of eight appearances for the region – is in his second season at Cardiff Blues.

A product of Marlwood School in Bristol, Normandale originally signed for Blues in 2013 after completing a three-year course at Cardiff Met.

The Bristol born forward – who stands a menacing 6ft 7in and weighs 17st 4lb – has been an ever-present in the LV=Cup side this season and also made two appearances in the Guinness PRO12 as he continues his development at the region.

Director of Rugby Mark Hammett said: “I’ve been impressed by Miles; his work ethic and attitude to get better and improve. He has all the physical attributes needed and has now got used to the environment here and what is expected from him.

“He made a big impression at Wasps and we were delighted for him. But his new contract is reward for what he has achieved all season and the very real potential we see in him.

“Miles will be Welsh qualified next year and we look forward to seeing how he develops over the rest of this season and the next two years.”

Normandale added: “I’m really pleased to have signed for another two years at Cardiff Blues.

“I’ve learnt so much in my time here. Training has been intense and I feel now I’ve got used to that level and working with the boys has been brilliant.

“I know Hammer (Mark Hammett) likes my direct approach to the game and as long as I’m doing the hard graft I am happy.

“I feel so much more confident now and I want to put my strengths and skills into the right areas of the game.”
