Llanrumney Stags Presentation Night

1st July 2008

The Llanrumney Stags Rugby Club Project has concluded its first season since its conception as a new junior section at Llanrumney Rugby Club.

The project has involved working partnerships between Active Communities, Youth Inclusion, Sport.Cardiff, Cardiff Blues and Llanrumney RFC.

The project has evolved during the season with 30 players aged 14-16 years of age engaged from the Llanrumney Community and funding secured via Community Chest and Norwich Union to establish and sustain start up costs and support coach education.

A presentation evening was held on Saturday June 21st at Llanrumney Hall, to celebrate the Stags first ever U16's playing season and Communities Officer Laura Williams and Sport.Cardiff/Cardiff Blues Rugby Development Officer Chris Ower were in attendance to help present awards to the players.

One of the key hard working volunteers within the project Alan Sheppard adds 'the instigation of the Llanrumney project to formulate a rugby team for the 2007/2008 season at under 16 has proved to be a great success. A large number of these players being from let me say a slightly indifferent back grounds to the greater majority of rugby players at the same age, has been extremely satisfying to see these boys play the game of rugby'.

They have trained regularly under the direction of Russell Martin and Gareth Rees two senior players of Llanrumney RFC to great effect.
The senior committee has helped and supported as much as they have possibly can taking into consideration the time and effort they give to their own set up.
Three ladies who have been superb in their administration of matters arising, in Michaela, Rachael and Danielle have been the main core set up to launch this new rugby structure. It goes without saying the input of Luke Burton initially followed on by Chris Ower and now in place Laura Williams is proving to be a strong position to move forward with a Youth team and an under fifteen team next season.

The presentation evening on Saturday evening was a brilliant end to a pretty good season.
