Many of the great names of Cardiff Rugby Football Club's past will gather at the Arms Park this evening to celebrate a unique achievement in the club's history.
Between 1908 and 1984 the the club played and beat the full might of the touring Wallabies six times in six matches, finishing with a 100 per cent record in the series.
Players from the 1947, 1957, 1966. 1975 and 1984 Cardiff teams will be in attendance, including 12 of the squad that beat the 1984 Grand Slam Wallabies 16-12 at the old National Stadium. They will have particular cause to mark the 20th anniversary year of their feat.
Newly installed WRU President Keith Rowlands captained the 1966 Cardiff side that triumphed 14-8 and he will be joined by his vice-captain that season, Billy Hullin. and the coach, Roy Bish.
Several other Cardiff and Wales players of the post-war years will also be there, together with league legends Billy Boston and Jim Mills.
The evening has been organised by John Harding of the Cardiff Former Players' Association who said, "There is much to be proud of in the Cardiff club's history and although primarily this is a reunion for old friends and colleagues it is also a timely reminder that our teams over the years have played winning rugby, but also stylish rugby, and have a unique record in club rugby at the highest level."
