Ben Jones hopes the upcoming Under-20 Six Nations campaign will be a platform to develop his game both on and off the field.
Jones was a crucial member of Jason Strange’s squad during last year’s Six Nations and World U20 Championship, and the outside half is one of six Cardiff Blues youngsters in the squad this time around.
Wales begin their campaign as they host Scotland at Parc Eirias on Friday, and Jones expects a typically bumper North Wales crowd for the opening clash of a special tournament.
“I played for Wales in the Six Nations last season as well. It was great to get involved, and I learnt a lot from the experience,” said Jones.
“We’ve already had a few camps together this season, and the boys are looking sharp.
“We’re all excited to get the tournament underway when we face Scotland at Colwyn Bay on Friday night.
“My aim is to improve as a player. It’s an opportunity to work on my game technically and also develop both on and off the field.
“The senior tournament is running alongside the under-20’s, which makes it more special and it feels like we’re close to them.
“There’s always a good vibe up in North Wales as well and there’s a good support there who come to watch the games.
“All the boys are keen to put on the Welsh jersey and do themselves and the shirt proud.
“As always, there’s a handful of Cardiff Blues boys involved and we’re all looking to impress in training and in games and hopefully we’ll be able to put our hands up for selection on a regional level when we return.”
Jones also came off the bench during Saturday’ Anglo-Welsh Cup defeat to Leicester Tiger at Welford Road.
The outside half, who made his Guinness PRO14 debut earlier in the season, insists he is enjoying every second of playing senior rugby with the region.
Jones said: “The attitude of the boys all week leading into the game was really good and they refused to give in out there against a good Leicester team.
"There were a few bumps and bruises, but the boys will dig again this week ready for the game against London Irish next week.
“It’s good to have game-time at this level and play at a high standard with Cardiff Blues. I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far and hopefully there is more to come in the future.”
