Hundreds enjoy Sphere Solutions Tag Festival

25th August 2015

Cardiff Blues held its annual Sphere Solutions Blues Under-8 Tag Festival at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park at the weekend - and not even the wet weather could wash away the enthusiasm of the young rugby stars who took part!

Hundreds of youngster took part in the family-fun festival which has become a key date in the Community programme diary at Cardiff Blues.

Over 280 children took part from 24 clubs across our region in the all-day festival, playing pool games and then semi-finals and final.

The first semi-final was between Beddau and Brecon and after an entertaining clash it was Beddau who emerged victorious.

The second semi-final between Old Penartians and Abercynon was a tense affair locked at 2-2 at the final whistle with Abercynon then winning with a golden try to progress to the final.

The final was a repeat of last year – Beddau versus Abercynon – and an exciting game was served up once again with the teams tied at 3-3 at final whistle. And then, in a repeat of last year’s final, it was Abercynon who took the title with the golden try!

Nadine Griffiths, Community Rugby Manager at Cardiff Blues, said: “The Sphere Solutions Blues Under-8 Tag Festival has become a big summer date for us and it was fantastic to see such a brilliant turnout once again.

“Hundreds of players took part and it was a real family friendly event with a big crowd cheering the youngsters on throughout. Not even the weather could dampen the spirits and it was great to see so many children get the chance to play on the same pitch as their heroes.

“Our thanks go to Cardiff Blues first team players James Sheekey and Taufa’ao Filise, who came along to meet and sign autographs for all the players, and our sponsors Sphere Solutions who support our Community programme and who without events like this would not become a reality.”
