Humberstone relishing his big opportunity

18th November 2013

Fly half Simon Humberstone is relishing his 'big opportunity' at Blues after his starring role in the derby day victory over Ospreys in the LV=Cup.

Humberstone was handed his first start for the region at the Liberty Stadium and responded in style with 11 points – including a superb late drop goal – as Blues secured a first win in the competition this season.

“It was a massive opportunity at Ospreys and we knew it would be a tough game, a massive derby,” he said.

“We took a young side and there were a lot of players out, but that is no excuse, it was an opportunity for us to have a crack and I think we did that pretty well in the end.

“It was nice to get the win, maybe it is not always pretty at all times. It’s a young developing side and it’s just great to get that win on the board at the end of the day.

“We worked hard for each other, probably not quite as clinical as you would want to be, but that’s good there are a lot of things to work on.

“We’re happy with the win but we have lots of stuff to go back and work on before Munster.”

On his personal opportunity at Blues in recent weeks, Humberstone is determined to enjoy every second.

“It’s a chance for me and I’m just trying to do my best to grab it. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far,” he added.

“I have just enjoyed getting on the pitch and playing at that professional level, playing against Worcester and coming to the Liberty and playing the Ospreys.

“I spent the first part of season at Pontypridd so I have come into the season and you wouldn’t know that we have had mixed results. It’s very upbeat and very positive, we’re looking towards the next game and we believe we can beat most teams we come up against.”
