First Team News | 23rd December 2020

Esports Wales were crowned champions of the inaugural Cardiff Blues Esports tournament last week.

12 entrants took part in the Warzone Quads Tournament, with the victorious team also including Xacay, who was the top killer of the day with 52 kills.

A team of four Cardiff Blues squad members - Dillon Lewis, James Botham, Rhys Carré and Ben Murphy - also entered, finishing in third place, narrowly behind My Nan’s Cuppa.

The victorious team were rewarded with four HyperX Stinger head-sets, while there were HyperX gaming mice for the runners up.

Cardiff Blues will also be supplying an exclusive Esport jersey to the winners, while Xacay picked up a £15 voucher, kindly donated by Squadzuk.

Cardiff Blues Esports team manager, Steve Hunt, said: “We were ecstatic with how the first Cardiff Blues Esports tournament went. Everything ran very smoothly, with all teams playing by the rules, keeping to the spirit of the the tournament and most of all having fun.

“It was great to have local students moderating the event, via Discord, and the fact that we had no issues is a testament to their hard work.

“We want to thank HyperX and Squadzuk for kindly donating prizes and congratulate Esports Wales for coming out on top.

“This is the start of a really exciting venture into the Esports market, and we’re already planning ahead and looking forward to hosting more tournaments in the New Year.

“We’re sure the Cardiff Blues boys will be desperate to climb the ladder and take that top spot next time!”

Welsh international, Dillon Lewis, added: “It was really exciting to take part in the first Cardiff Blues Esports tournament.

“The standard was really high, so we didn’t do too bad to finish in third place. It was our first time playing in a competitive tournament like this but we’re already looking forward for the next one now and we’ll target the top spot at that one!”
