New Cardiff Blues prop forward Tom Davies is ready to take a step up with Blues.

The former Hallcross School pupil came through the Doncaster RFC Youth system and went on to play for Wales at Under 18 level, qualifying to play through his parents who are both from Aberdare originally.

Speaking at the Blues training centre Tom said, "I'm settling in well and enjoying it, the first couple of weeks have been really good."

"It was the plan all along really, I've been up in Doncaster plying my trade and the move down here is what I've been waiting for.

"It's something that I've always wanted to do because of my Welsh roots."

The former Leeds University Chemical Engineering student cut his rugby teeth under former Wales Defensive Coach, Clive Griffiths at Doncaster before joining the Blues.

"I've played quite a few games at National One and now want to test myself at a higher level."

"National One is quite a tough league, a bit forward orientated and physical but I'm looking forward to the step up."

"We finished 3rd, 4th and 5th so it was frustrating not to be promoted, however, I think Exeter were deserved winners of the League last season although it was quite close between them and Bristol, as they are both quality teams."

With the Blues facing Exeter on Saturday 21 August, 3.00pm kick off, in their first pre season friendly, Tom will know his opponents better than most.

"I've played against Exeter a few times, and they were often some of our better matches, so it will be nice to have a run out at Sandy Park. It's quite windy down there but they get decent crowds so hopefully it will be a good day."

"I want to play as much as I can for the Blues and if I'm given the opportunity I want to take it."
