Coach calls for final flourish to season

6th May 2014

Coach Dale McIntosh urged Cardiff Blues to finish the RaboDirect PRO12 season on a real high when they travel to regional rivals Scarlets on the final day of the campaign next weekend.

Resurgent Blues made it a fab four run of performances as Connacht followed in the recent footsteps of Ulster, Edinburgh and Scarlets as they suffered defeat.

The result in Galway was all the more pleasing for the coaching team of McIntosh and Paul John as Blues had to dig deep and recover from trailing 15-3 early in the second half to run out confident 22-15 winners.

Blues now hit the road one final time this year as they head west to Parc y Scarlets to face Simon Easterby’s high flying outfit.

But McIntosh believes the squad must travel with confidence as they look to make it five straight league wins and secure seventh spot in the RaboDirect PRO12 table.

“We are all looking forward to the final game. It’s a local derby and we have beaten them once before this season,” he said.

“Obviously they wouldn’t have been happy about losing to us last time and, although they have qualified for Europe, we are going down there to get a result.

“We are not over confident in ourselves. But we are confident that we can compete, confident in our own ability and if we can produce something similar to tonight and the last three games then we will be a tough nut to crack.”
