Cardiff Blues to take on Dragons in A team fixture

Pathway | 27th October 2020

Cardiff Blues can confirm they will take on the Dragons in an A team fixture at Ystrad Mynach tomorrow (4pm).

The game has been arranged to ensure the entire first team squad and senior academy enjoy significant game time in the absence of both the usual Celtic Cup and Indigo Welsh Premiership competitions.

Cardiff Blues head coach John Mulvihill said: “With no age-grade, A-league or Welsh Premiership rugby currently taking place, this is a great development tool for our players who aren’t far away from selection or are at the beginning of their professional career.

“These players get their best learnings on field in competitive matches and they have been starved of that since March but we will need them in the weeks ahead.

“In our game against Munster we included a number of debutants due to having eight players in the Wales squad and a further nine injured. So these boys will get PRO14 or European game time and when that opportunity comes we need to make sure they are ready.

“It’s a good opportunity for us and hopefully we will see a few more similar fixtures if time and squad depth permits.”

While the game will be played behind closed doors, Cardiff Blues will be providing live match updates as will as extensive highlights post match.
