Cardiff A - 19 Swansea A - 12

7th February 2007

Perfect playing conditions greeted the Cardiff and Swansea sides, both of whom have found themselves in the semi finals of the DC Thomas Cup.

Cardiff took early control of the game with the forwards dominant in both the ruck and maul area against a much bigger Swansea side. The first score of the game came following a chargedown at a scrum on the Swansea 5 metre line. Callum Sheedy (St. Peters) collected the ball to score from all of half a yard. William Hayward (Pentyrch) converted.

Sustained pressure in the Swansea half saw an exhilarating piece of play by Cardiff come to an abrupt end with a breakaway try for Swansea. Following a Cardiff mid field mix up, the Swansea centre collected the ball, evaded a desperate tackle and ran the full length of the field to bring the score to 7-5 in favour of Cardiff. Sheedy then repeated his efforts shortly afterwards to see the score line at 12 -5.

Again, the Cardiff defence were caught napping and a blindside move saw Swansea run in a try from 70 metres. The score was level at the half time break.

The second half was a close and the Man of the Mmatch was openside flanker Sydney Blackmore (Llandaff Church in Wales Primary School). His excellent angles of running created space his and telling tackles saw him lead his team by example. One to look out for in the future.
