Boss salutes Arms Park atmosphere

19th October 2013

Phil Davies saluted a stunning Arms Park atmosphere as Cardiff Blues sensationally beat reigning Heineken Cup champions Toulon 19-15 in a memorable encounter.

A try from Gareth Davies three minutes from time saw scenes of jubilation around the stadium before a party atmosphere on the final whistle.

And the noise and passion of the home faithful was not lost on Davies who thanked the fans for their belief and backing.

“It was important to win today for lots of reasons but it was great to hear the crowd singing at the end. I haven’t heard it like that for a long time and it was like the old days,” he smiled.

“The atmosphere just shows the appreciation of Welsh rugby supporters. When they see a team play like we did today, although we are in pink rather than blue, they get behind it.

“They admire battling commitment and we talked about pride in the shirt this week.

“The players understand more about the history perhaps than they did before. It was great and it’s fantastic for the club, for the staff and for the fans.

“Hopefully we can replicate more days like this for ourselves and for Cardiff as a region and Welsh rugby,” he added.

“Consistency is key. When I came in we talked about creating a new culture, about creating new standards, which we have done.

“We have progressed and when you break down the first seven games it has been progressive, apart from losing to Zebre that was difficult and has a stigma with it.

“Today shows there is work going on and if we apply ourselves we will get even better.”
