Blues to take part in World Club 7s

12th June 2014

Cardiff Blues are to take part in the 2014 World Club 7s tournament, which will be held at Twickenham over the weekend of August 16 & 17.

In total 12 teams, from seven nations, will take part in the World Club 7s tournament. All teams will compete against each other on day one, before dividing into three Cup competitions on day two, with the leading sides competing for the chance to be crowned the best club 7s side in rugby.

Blues will join Southern hemisphere teams Vodacom Blue Bulls, Auckland, NSW Waratahs, DHL Western Provence and Buenos Aires, as well as New York City 7s and Seattle from the US, as the clubs announced so far to take part in rugby’s world club 7s competition.

Paul John, Attack Coach at Blues and former Wales Sevens coach, said: “We’re delighted as a region to be able to play in such a showpiece tournament and face top class teams and players from around the rugby globe.

“It’s a great opportunity for the Blues to continue to build-up preparations for the new PRO12 season against some of the real giants of Southern Hemisphere rugby and the best from the US.

“I’m sure Twickenham will provide an inspirational backdrop to the event and we hope lots of our fans will make the journey to London to back the Blues and support the second year of the World Club 7s.”
