Blues to take momentum into Europe

2nd December 2013

Boss Phil Davies believes Cardiff Blues will now take the momentum into the Heineken Cup campaign - after claiming a thrilling 26-26 draw with Benetton Treviso in Italy.

A late penalty and a total of 16 points from the boot of Gareth Davies – plus first half tries from Chris Czekaj and Robin Copeland – ensured Blues claimed two valuable points in the RaboDirect PRO12 clash.

And Director of Rugby Davies believes the experienced will only benefit his young squad and give the team real heart as they prepare to tackle Glasgow Warriors in Europe at the Arms Park on Friday night.

He said: “To be successful at this level you have got to have a big squad and competition. We are very young in lots of areas of our squad, but these type of experiences will help us as we move on.

“The quality players we have to come back in after the internationals will obviously boost the team.

“But we have had a period where we have two wins, two losses and a draw since the international series began. It’s 50/5o and we were pleased today – if we had got a result we would have been ecstatic.

“There is lots to ponder and lots to be pleased about and that was a confidence boost before Glasgow,” he added.

“Last week against Munster we performed for an hour, but there was a period when we dropped off and Munster punished us because they are a top side.

“We were desperate for that to happen today, against another quality team, so we are pleased that we have got two points. We can go home and regroup and go into the Heineken Cup next week on the front foot.”
