Blues Target Student Support

19th September 2005

Cardiff Blues will have stands in the three Universities within the Blues region over the Freshers’ Week.

The Blues will have stands in UWIC on Wednesday the 21st of September, University of Glamorgan on Monday the 26th and Cardiff University on Wednesday the 28th. Students will have the chance to meet star players and win Blues rugby shirts, rugby balls and most importantly…. beer.

Special tickets will also be sold specifically to students for the Powergen Cup match between the Cardiff Blues and London Saracens on Saturday the 1st of October 5.30pm kick off. The tickets will have a voucher which entitles them to a free pint in the bar when they purchase a £10 concession terrace ticket.

“Following the success of our stands in the Royal Welsh Show, Urdd National Eisteddfod and other events during the summer we felt it was important to have stands in the Universities to welcome the new students to the Blues region. There is a very large student population within the Blues region and I’m sure many of them want to see top quality rugby at Cardiff Arms Park. Following on from our victory over the Scarlets in the Celtic League last week and with the Powergen and Heineken Cup competitions starting in October there has never been a better time for new fans to come to the Arms Park. The £10 ticket that includes a free pint offers great value for money”. Said, Gwydion Griffiths, Marketing and Media Officer for the Cardiff Blues.

Two students that will be starting University this year are Gwyn Ford and Thomas Isaacs from Cardiff. Gwyn will be studying Sport and Leisure Management at UWIC while Thomas will start at Cardiff University this term studying civil engineering.

Gwyn Ford said, “I’ve been following the Cardiff Blues since they started three years ago so think it’s a brilliant idea that they are visiting UWIC.”

“I will definitely be visiting the Blues stand this Wednesday for the chance to win a rugby shirt. I think it’s great that they are visiting the Universities and the Student tickets are great value for money especially when you consider you get a free pint with the ticket” said Thomas Isaacs.
