Blues support Wales Deaf Rugby Union

11th January 2016

Back row Ellis Jenkins made an appearance at a special community project held at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park recently between Cardiff Blues and the Wales Deaf Rugby Union (WDRU).

Pupils with hearing difficulties from schools across our region were invited to the day at the home of Cardiff Blues.

The day saw children enjoy tours of the stadium and changing rooms before training on the same pitch as their heroes, with sessions held by BTEC students on the Cardiff Blues Education programme. Ellis Jenkins then made an appearance to meet the children and sign autographs.

The day was held by the WDRU, in association with Cardiff Blues, to inspire young children to further their interest in sport, rugby and give them more of a direct engagement with deaf rugby.

Nadine Griffiths, Cardiff Blues Community Manager, said: “The day was a great success so our thanks go to the Wales Deaf Rugby Union for hosting the event with us.

“The children not only felt included in sport but were given the opportunity to realise the goals open to them regardless of their deafness.”
