Baber praise as young guns fire in cup

15th November 2013

Coach Gareth Baber praised the young guns in the Cardiff Blues for firing in the LV=Cup as they claimed an impressive 21-13 victory over Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium.

Hooker Kristian Dacey and lock Macauley Cook got the crucial tries and Simon Humberstone weighed in with 11 points on a cold night in Swansea.

However, it was have been the manner of the entire team performance that thrilled the Arms Park coaching team.

Blues went into the game without 20 players due to injuries and international call-ups and on the back of a narrow defeat to Worcester Warriors last week.

But the team responded in the right manner as they deservedly battled for a win that reignites the region’s LV=Cup ambitions for the season.

“We said all week that no matter what the competition it was a local derby. What you want to do in your local derby games is get win, especially away from home,” said Baber.

“The effort was fantastic. A little bit of accuracy was missing in some parts of our game, but we are delighted to get that win under our belt.

“It was a night for players to impress and we are all about competition. Within the squad we want to generate as much competition as we can.

“There were a number of boys out for us tonight, but we wanted to get a young team out on the field and see how they adapted under pressure. I thought tonight a number really put their hands up so good on them.

“It doesn’t matter where you are playing or what competition, this game is about winning and we are about winning.

“It’s been difficult at times this season, but we are looking to get more consistency in our game and that comes with getting wins on the board.”
