Ankle injury to Lomu in final minutes of Borders game.

16th April 2006

Whilst on an attacking run in the 76th minute Lomu turned his ankle stepping round a defender.

Just metres from the try line he managed to off load the ball allowing Mark Lewis to cross for a final try in the 46 to 11 win over Borders.

“The ankle is not broken and it appears at this stage that the damage is limited to the ligaments. Jonah will undergo further examination over the next few days to determine the full extent of the injury. At this time it’s uncertain how long he could be out for, we’ll be in a better position to know that late next week.” said his Manager.

Despite the injury the giant New Zealander made several strong breaks during the game and looked more like his old self than in previous outings for the Blues. The comprehensive win took the Blues into 4th place on the table.
