Josh Adams was thrilled to bag a hat-trick on debut as Cardiff Blues ran riot with a 54-22 European Challenge Cup victory over Pau.
The Blues crossed for eight tries at the Arms Park and it could have been more as they blew the French outfit away.
Adams could have scored four on his first appearance for Wales’ Capital Region but he handed a run in to Matthew Morgan in the first-half before securing his treble in virtually the last play.
He said: “I wasn’t expecting to get three. It is always nice to get one so to have three on debut is extra nice.
“I only scored one in my whole time at Worcester so to get one in your first game is nice but honestly I had so much fun out there tonight. I was smiling, laughing in a good way and just really enjoyed myself.
“The brand of rugby we play is super exciting to be involved and I’m looking forward to the next however many games I play for the Blues.
“On debut you want to show you are a team player and not selfish. Nipper did the hard-work on the inside so I gave one to him.
“As a winger I’m always looking for opportunities to score, I’m always sniffing around the ruck, coming off my wing, on the other side of the pitch, anticipating the line breaks and if I can keep doing that hopefully the tries will keep coming.”
Virtually everything Cardiff Blues touched came off as they secured their fourth win in five games and kept alive their hopes in the Challenge Cup.
But he does not expect it all his way next week when the Blues travel to take on Pau on their home patch in the second of this festive double header.
He added: “It’s hard to put your finger on it but a lot of repetition in the week, having an absolute quality nine and 10 in Jarrod and Tomos and obviously Rey and Ben in the midfield were exceptional.
“If we can build on this, we give ourselves the best chance of beating Pau next week which is going to be massive.
“They’ll potentially have a different side out, French teams are always good at home on their own patch so the opportunities will definitely be limited and we will have to be clinical if we want to come away with a win.”
