Munster clash is all about winning - Jenkins

21st September 2018

Ellis Jenkins admits it is an honour to reach his 100th Cardiff Blues appearance but he insists it is all about winning in Friday night's Guinness PRO14 clash with Munster.

The openside flanker returns to captain the Blues at Cardiff Arms Park and will reach the milestone, with Macauley Cook also hitting 150.

But following three last gasp defeats Jenkins is solely focussed on kick-starting Wales’ Capital Region’s season, and hopes the impact of the Cardiff Arms Park crowd will have an effect on proceedings.

He said: “It’s a big honour to play that many games and is something not many people have done so it’s nice to get over that milestone.

“I got stuck there last year, I thought I was going to get there but missed the first half of the season. It will be a nice occasion for my family and myself but it’s all about getting the win.

“We always talk about the Arms Park. In any home game it’s loud and it helps a lot , especially in the later stages of the game. Hopefully it will be a decent turnout

“It is the ideal fixture. A big challenge. They are playing well and are coming off a big win.

“We let ourselves down with our physicality on the weekend and they don’t come much more physical than Munster so we have to see it as a challenge and opportunity to get back on the horse and put in a physical performance.”

Jenkins insists his side have worked hard at identifying the aspects to improve on following the opening two fixtures, and says the squad have had to be brutally honest with each other in the build up to tonight’s clash.

“All we can do is look to improve week by week. It’s not a habit we want to get into a make a regular occurrence so it’s an opportunity to change it.

“It is tough but there isn’t a golden answer it’s just about improving in various aspects. There are key moments in the game where we are making big errors and compounding errors and that’s leading to points.

“Then the times we get in strong positions we’re not converting. You can talk about being ruthless and when you go ahead you keep playing but that’s not something we’re doing at the moment.

“As forwards we weren’t happy with the way we have been in terms of collision dominance and physicality but this is an opportunity to go against one of the best.”

“It’s a bit frustrating the way the first three games have gone, it’s a bit of a mystery to us but we have sat down this week and had some honest and painful conversations with each other."
