Evans insists Cardiff Blues can take confidence to Glasgow

1st December 2017

Jarrod Evans insists Cardiff Blues will travel to Glasgow with nothing to lose as they take on Guinness PRO14 Conference A leaders at Scotstoun tonight.

The Warriors are unbeaten so far this season and sit 12-points clear at the top of the table.

They inflicted an agonising one-point defeat earlier in the campaign at Cardiff Arms Park and Evans reckons the Blues have nothing to lose going to Glasgow on the back of three wins in their last four PRO14 games.

He said: “We’re coming off the back of a good and much-need win against Connacht, and we’ll go out there and have a good crack at Glasgow.

“Glasgow could have all their internationals out and put in a performance like that (47-6 victory over the Ospreys), it doesn’t matter who plays they are still going to be a very strong side.

“They’ve made a name for themselves for this chaotic way of playing, they just seem to like a high-speed game and it works for them. They have a lot of players who one versus one are very dangerous and it works in their favour a lot of the time.

“You have to counteract that by controlling our game and not giving them any easy opportunities with our kicking game. It’s a tough place to go but we will be confident going there.”

With Steve Shingler and all three full-backs on the sidelines, Evans starts at fly-half and Gareth Anscombe captains the team in the number 15 jersey.

Evans, 21, has made the most of several opportunities this season and hopes to continue to do so as the Blues enter a crucial period of PRO14 and European Challenge Cup fixtures.

He added: “It’s nice to be back, obviously I had a concussion… I made a few mistakes here and there but it’s god to be back and throwing the ball around with the boys.

“I’ll try to take my opportunity and it’s down to the coaches who plays. We have this Glasgow game and then Sale back-to-back, which is going to be pretty tough.

“We can focus on Europe, which we’re two from two in and then go into the Christmas derbies but we have to take it one game at a time.”
