We owe supporters a performance - Shingler

11th September 2017

Steve Shingler has called on Cardiff Blues to repay their supporters' faith with a performance to be proud of at the Arms Park on Saturday (7.35pm).

The Blues welcome Glasgow Warriors to the iconic ground in their third Guinness PRO14 clash of the season.

Following two disappoint defeats, Shingler is desperate to make it third time lucky and he knows his side owe their home crowd following a flat performance in their last Cardiff encounter.

He said: “It was very frustrating to be called flat (after the Edinburgh game) and I know the boys will turn up at the Arms Park, show energy and hopefully get the result.

“We are professional players and we have to turn up every week. There is a bit of pressure on us now but hopefully the supporters get behind us and we can turn Glasgow over.”

While the Blues responded to the opening defeat with a resilient display against Leinster in Dublin last Friday, the pressure told on 67 minutes.

The hard work was undone as Leinster racked up 21 unanswered points in the space of nine minutes and while Shingler admits the scoreline was bitterly disappointing, he insists Cardiff Blues must focus on the positives of the opening 67 minutes.

He added: “I don’t think the scoreline completely reflects how the whole game went. We were in it until about 65 minutes and then that turnover where their hooker scored killed us and the game was over.

“Up until that point our defence was good – they had a turnover and scored and we had a couple and didn’t take our chances. In the first half we had a that break and we have to finish those opportunities against a team like Leinster.

“It’s difficult to come to Leinster and win but we have to take pride from the first 65 minutes and build on it. The energy was there we just have to be clinical. We have to beat Glasgow now.”
