Bennett praises team spirit

25th February 2017

Sion Bennett highlighted the effect of his side's character during Cardiff Blues' 18-17 Guinness PRO12 victory over Edinburgh at Myreside on Friday.

Bennett crossed the whitewash for the second time in two games to set up a tense finale, before Lloyd Williams touched down for a match-winning score with eight minutes remaining.

Despite trailing 17-6 early in the second half, Bennett believes the togetherness of the squad showed, as they bounced back to claim a vital victory.

“The wind was against us throughout that second half, but it showed tonight how the boys have pulled together over the last few weeks,” said Bennett.

“We said we needed to pull tight together and you can see that with the team spirit around the squad at the moment.

“The forwards showed good hands all game, and the try by Lloyd Williams showed the guts we had, to come back from that deficit and come away with the win.

“Our goal looking ahead is to win three from this current block of four games. We beat Munster at the start of the season, which shows that we can do it, but we have a big week of preparations ahead of us.

Bennett has recently joined the Blues from Northampton Saints on a loan deal until the end of the season, and the back row forward insists he is enjoying his rugby at the region and has settled into the squad quickly.

“At the moment, I’m just trying to show what I’ve got and help out the team the best I can.

“I’m enjoying playing rugby with the lads, and luckily I’ve managed to settle in quickly in this side.”
