Nine Cardiff Blues selected by Wales U20s

22nd February 2017

Cardiff Blues back-row duo James Botham and Aled Ward are set to make their Wales Under-20s debuts against Scotland in the Six Nations on Friday night.

In total head coach Jason Strange has made five changes to the starting line-up, which includes an impressive total of nine Blues players.

Rhun Williams returns to the Under-20s for his first appearance of the season while Cameron Lewis and Corrie Tarrant both step up from the bench at centre and hooker.

Ben Jones, Dane Blacker, Rhys Carre and Keiron Assiratti all hold onto their starting places for the Broadwood Stadium clash.

“The pressure for places in the squad has increased the competitive feeling amongst the squad, and after capping eight new players against England, it’s good to be able to blood some more this week,” says Strange.

“That’s exactly what we need travelling to Scotland, who boast some really good individuals and a big pack of forwards.

“We may have a smaller pool of players to choose from than other nations, but we more than make up for that in talent.

“We’ve played some very good rugby in our past two games, and the job for the team this Friday is to build on that.”

There are two further players, who ply their trade within the Cardiff Blues region, second-rows Sean Moore of Pontypridd and Cardiff Met’s Alex Dombrandt.

Wales Under-20s: Rhun Williams; Corey Baldwin, Cameron Lewis, Keiran Williams, Ryan Conbeer; Ben Jones, Dane Blacker; Rhys Carre, Corrie Tarrant, Keiron Assiratti, Sean Moore, Alex Dombrandt, James Botham, Will Jones, Aled Ward.

Replacements: Owen Hughes, Steff Thomas, Chris Coleman, Max Williams, Morgan Morris, Reuben Morgan-Williams, Arwel Robson, Phil Jones.
