Tackle taken into the community

8th November 2016

Following the launch of Tackle last month the ground-breaking initiative has now been delivered to schools within the region.

The joint initiative between the four Welsh regions brings a rugby education programme to Communities First areas in conjunction with Careers Wales and sponsored by BT Sport.

Cardiff Blues rugby officer Dan Jenkins has led the Tackle programme within the region and has now delivered the initiative at St Cyres in Penarth and Willows High School in Cardiff.

Next week Dan will be taking the inflatable BT Sport Supporters Club cage to Aberdare Community School and Crickhowell High School.

Dan said: “It’s great to take Tackle into the community and be able to engage with so many children.

“The delivery of Tackle allows us to develop those key values of rugby – confidence, leadership, communication and teamwork.

“These skills will bring enormous benefits to the participants in terms of potential further education and employment.

“It was great fun and we can’t wait to take the Tackle cage up to Aberdare and Crickhowell in the coming weeks.”

Tackle brings a format of rugby into the heart of communities that is accessible, relevant and challenging for teenagers, both male and female and of all abilities including those who have never played before.

Sessions can be held in a wide variety of locations from school playing fields, to community parks, sports and community centres -bringing rugby closer to hard-to-reach communities.
