Cardiff Blues Select XV name side for Ospreys clash

4th October 2016

Cardiff Blues Select XV have announced their squad for Wednesday night's clash against their Ospreys counterparts (KO 7.15pm)

Experienced scrum-half Lewis Jones, who has appeared 87 times for the Cardiff Blues first team, will lead the side out at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

The team also includes the likes of Jarrad Hoeata, Aled Summerhill and Jarrod Evans, who have represented the region’s senior side on numerous occasions.

A large percentage of the squad is made up from the region’s academy and age grade sides, who have not yet played in the Guinness PRO12 this season, including Wales U20’s internationals Liam Belcher, Seb Davies, Shane Lewis Hughes and Rhun Williams.

Elite Performance Pathway Manager, Richard Hodges, will serve as the team’s head coach, assisted by Paul John and Duane Goodfield.

Hodges said: “This is the third year we have done it, so it’s becoming a bit of an annual event and serves a good purpose to test our player pathway and introduce supporters to some new faces.

“It will give players who have not featured in the Guinness PRO12 some game-time and a chance to stake a claim ahead of Europe and our tier one and two academy players an opportunity to make an impression for the British and Irish Cup.”

Entry will be free to spectators, and instead there will be a bucket collection, in aid of #StayStrongForOws, on the gate and supporters are kindly asked to donate generously.
