Danny Wilson has warned Cardiff Blues that they will face their toughest task yet when Glasgow Warriors visit BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night (7.00PM).
The Blues have made an impressive start to the Championship with victories over Edinburgh and Munster yet the Scots sit above them in the PRO12 table.
Gregor Townsend’s men have picked up a pair of bonus-point victories against last season’s champions Connacht and Leinster, racking up more than 70-points in the process.
And despite Wales Capital Region’s positive start, Wilson has warned that Friday will see them come up against the best team in the tournament.
He said: “At this minute Glasgow are the best team in the Championship. They have shown that again in the start they have made.
“Tommy Seymour looked extremely dangerous (in scoring four tries against Glasgow), he’s a quality player and it doesn’t take much for him to sniff an opportunity.
“They are a very well coached, very well drilled side that have performed at the top end of the PRO12 for a long time.
“They have started this Championship well so it will be a huge challenge, our toughest game yet but if we could get a win at home then what a platform to build on.
“I feel we’re in a similar place, we are an in form team coming off the back of two wins and we will play them with huge confidence.”
With the likes of Josh Turnbull, Sam Warburton and Lloyd Williams all returning to action from the bench against Munster, competition is as fierce as ever.
Wilson does not yet have a first-choice 15 in mind but that is exactly what he wants with several selection dilemmaS and the option to pick different players depending on opposition and tactics.
He continued: “We have horses for courses and we will pick the relevant selections which are appropriate for the opposition we are playing.
“If you only have 15-18 players, they play against whoever but what you need and see from the big hitters in world rugby is a squad where you can make one or two changes depending on the opposition, the tactics and the need develop or rest players in the squad.
“We will select with an approach to beat Glasgow and then secondly to make sure this squad develops because the games come thick and fast.”
It is hoped a bumper crowd will turn out at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park for the encounter and Wilson insists home support can make all the difference.
He added: “It looks like the could be a reasonable night, there are two sides that play an attractive, high tempo style rugby on a surface that promotes and encourages that.
“I would hope people come to watch because it will be quite a spectacle. We know long term it is about winning games, that’s what puts bums on seats but we’ve won our first two and hopefully that means people will come to watch.”
