Turnbull wins top end of season award

12th May 2016

Josh Turnbull scooped the Peter Thomas Player of the Season Award at Cardiff Blues' End of Season Awards Evening.

The region’s first team squad, coaches and management celebrated the 2015-16 campaign with sponsors and partners at the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, with the ceremony held in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre.

And Turnbull beat off competition from Rhys Patchell, Ellis Jenkins and Dan Fish to pick up the chairman’s award, in association with Evolve Telecoms.

The versatile forward, who has worn the number four, five, six, seven and eight jerseys this season, has been a standout performer.

He featured in 25 matches, more often than not for their entirety and racked up 1878 minutes of action.

Earlier in the evening Ellis Jenkins was recognised by his teammates, winning the Players’ Player of the Season Award.

The flanker pipped Dan Fish and Rhys Patchell to the award which was sponsored by DS Smith.

Garyn Smith won the Most Promising Player of the Season Award, sponsored by Airbus, and Harri Millard was named the Academy Player of the Season in association with Cardiff and Vale College.

The evening was hosted by TV presenter and Cardiff Blues fan Gethin Jones, while the audience were also treated to a performance from pianist Jack Baldus.

Taufa’ao Filise was celebrated for surpassing 200 caps, while Lloyd Williams and Josh Navidi received their 100th and Ellis Jenkins, Matthew Rees, Tom Davies, Lou Reed and Josh Turnbull their 50th.

Gareth Anscombe was also honoured after being named the Guinness PRO12 Rhino Golden Boot Award winner in Dublin on Sunday.
