Down aiming up in remaining PRO12 games

24th February 2016

Giant lock James Down is used to flying high in the lineout for Cardiff Blues - and now he wants the team to have lofty ambitions in the remaining months of the Guinness PRO12 season.

Down – who has clocked up 82 appearances for Cardiff Blues and is now in his second spell at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park – has been ultra-consistent in the pack this season.

The 28-year-old is keen to return to winning ways this Sunday when Ulster Rugby arrive in the Welsh capital for league action (kick-off 2.30pm).

And the second row is determined to keep looking up this season and believes if the team cut out the little mistakes they can still hit the heights.

He said: “We feel we are on the upward curve. The start of the season and the last few weeks, we have had those little inconsistencies in our game that have cost us.

“We have lost by small margins so we need to iron out the mistakes. If we want to push for the top six, which is our ultimate goal, we have to do that now.

“With our run in and home games, because we are always confident against anybody at home, we feel we can achieve that. We need to go on a run and kick on again.

“We’ve shown this season what we are capable of and it is just little errors that have cost us tight games. That’s ultimately the difference if you want to be a top side.

“It can be one missed tackle, one driving lineout or one missed penalty. The good sides nail it and now we have to too.”
