International stars in stalemate action

8th February 2016

The international stars from Cardiff Blues were in action this weekend - and had to settle for draws after entertaining encounters!

Sam Warburton led Wales against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and was joined by regional team-mate Tom James as the two teams played out a 16-16 draw in a compelling Six Nations match.

The home team led 13-0 after 28 minutes thanks to Conor Murray's try and eight points from the boot of Johnny Sexton.

But Wales – who were forced to start the game without Cardiff Blues ace Gareth Anscombe after he pulled out injured - hit back with Taulupe Faletau's try converted by replacement fly-half Rhys Priestland, whose 72nd-minute penalty edged Wales 16-13 ahead.

Sexton's third penalty squared things and Priestland's late drop-goal attempt was off target in a breathless finale. Gethin Jenkins and Lloyd Williams were second half replacements.

Meanwhile, Cam Dolan scored a second half intercept try as the USA Eagles drew 35-35 with Argentina in the first game of the inaugural America Rugby Championship in Houston on Saturday.

Dolan and regional team-mates Blaine Scully, who captained the USA, both started the game at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
