Cornish Pirates 15 CBPS 18

19th December 2015

Tries from Aled Summerhill and Cam Dolan saw Cardiff Blues Premiership Select (CBPS) secure a crucial British & Irish Cup victory in Cornwall.

Following last Sunday's 10-22 reverse against the Cornish Pirates at Bt Sport Cardiff Arms Park, the return tie was a 'must-win' for CBPS at a wet and very windy Mennaye Field in Penzance.

CBPS got off to just the start they wished for, when Summerhill went in under the posts with only four minutes. Gareth Davies conversion made it 7-0.

The home side hit back when Referee Mr Gaffikin lost patience after four successive penalties from the visitors – which lead to the official trotting under the posts for a Penalty Try – and prop Brad Thyer was yellow carded.

Five minutes later and CBPS found themselves behind as Pirates centre, Max Bodilly, followed up well from a kick ahead.

May missed the extras but redeemed this shortly afterwards to extend his side's advantage to 15-7 as half time approached – but with CBPS down to 13 following a second yellow card.

When back to 15, CBPS regained control with a penalty for Davies just before the break followed up by a try from No 8 Dolan.

Davies added another penalty late on to ensure it was CBPS who made the long trip home with the points and renewed hope in the competition.
