Coach high praise for terrific Turnbull

1st December 2015

Head Coach Danny Wilson has hailed the performance of versatile forward Josh Turnbull in recent weeks as he strives for a balance in the back row before the visit of league leaders Connacht this Friday night.

Wilson acknowledges he will need to make changes to his starting line-up this week with Sam Warburton joining the likes of Josh Navidi and Ellis Jenkins on the treatment table.

However, the likes of Cam Dolan, Macauley Cook and Jevon Groves are all pushing for starts.

And Wilson admits the eye-catching form of Turnbull and back row partner Manoa Vosawai means the back row is in safe hands for Friday’s game at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

“Sam Warburton, Josh Navidi and Ellis Jenkins are all probably out of this game and so we are in a situation where three of our sevens are injured,” he said. “But it opens the door for someone else and a different back row mixture going into the game.

“We need to get the balance right with the players who are available. We have options in the back row and who will play six, seven and eight.

“What I will say is credit to the likes of Manoa Vosawai and Josh Turnbull who have been outstanding in recent weeks.

“Manoa has been fantastic the last two weeks with his carrying and tackle count through the roof.

“Josh has played a fair amount of rugby this season and played really well. I am pleased with his contributions and hopefully he can keep them going.”
