Wilson: The journey starts for us now

3rd September 2015

Boss Danny Wilson admits Cardiff Blues will start the journey when they face Zebre Rugby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday afternoon - and he is determined to open the Guinness PRO12 campaign with a win on home soil.

After months of pre-season preparation, the curtain will go up on a new season this weekend when Italian outfit Zebre arrive in the Welsh capital (kick-off 2.30pm).

It is a new start for both Cardiff Blues and Head Coach Wilson, who was given the hotseat in the summer.

Wilson has spoken about his excitement about the future and also his long-term plans to bring success back to Cardiff Blues over the coming years.

However, he remains steely determined that success on day one includes gaining a first win of the season on home soil.

“We’ve had a good discussion with players about this opening block of games and where we are in our journey at the moment,” he said.

“We have come together as a new group of players and coaches and we are very early in that process.

“We have looked at players in pre-season friendlies and this is the first chance in league matches and with that comes the added pressures.

“It is another step on the ladder for us, but don’t get me wrong, we want to win. It is a home game and we want to win every home game and are creating a game plan do to so.

“It’s an exciting time for us and I hope we get a good crowd in on Sunday and can give them what they want on day one.”
