Wilson key to new defence guru signing

26th June 2015

New Defence Coach Graham Steadman has pinpointed the appointment of Danny Wilson as Head Coach at Cardiff Blues as absolutely pivotal to his move to the region.

Steadman will move to BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park from next week to take on the defensive duties.

And the former Scotland and Ireland Defence Coach is looking forward to his new partnership with Wilson.

He said: “Danny is one of the big reasons I am here. I got a really good feeling the first time I sat down with him and chatted.

“He is a young and inspiring coach. He is innovative and has some great ideas about the game. I think we can bounce positive ideas off each other that the team will benefit from.

“My main focus is defence and I’m looking forward to getting to grips with the boys from first thing Monday morning to build defensive units that are going to be nice and tight throughout the season.

“First and foremost we have got to get the guys building trust and confidence in each other.

“I’m a big believer that any team success is built around a strong defensive platform and if we can get that right I’m sure it can put us in a good position.

“If you’re in within one score of any team going into the last five minutes you can win any game. That is based around the defence.

“Having conceded the number of tries that were conceded last season, it needs fixing up. But I’m not here to talk about the past, it’s about the here and now and what we can build for the future and getting these boys playing to their capability.”
