Chief: Let's keep the winning habit

4th March 2015

Defence Coach Dale McIntosh has called on Cardiff Blues to keep the winning habit as they prepare to face Connacht Rugby in the Guinness PRO12 at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night (kick-off 7.35pm).

Blues returned to winning ways with a battling 21-15 win over Edinburgh Rugby last weekend.

McIntosh admitted it was a nervy final few minutes for his side on home soil as Edinburgh staged a late rally.

But now he wants Blues to look to replicate the first half display against Edinburgh and claim another crucial win as high-flying Connacht arrive in the Welsh capital.

“I thought we played some great stuff in the first half against Edinburgh,” he said. “The conditions, though, meant we couldn’t play as expansively as we wanted for the full 80 minutes.

“Edinburgh have picked up and are a very good side so we had to grind the result out in the end, purely because the confidence levels are not yet where they should be.

“Some players may have been thinking ‘here we go again’ because we have been in that situation a few games this season when we have been close to wins but not quite sealed the coffin.

“I think the performance was a good reaction to what happened in Treviso – nothing to do with what has happened off the pitch recently,” he added.

“We let ourselves down, we let a lot people down in Italy and it was about putting it right.

“Now we look to keep that going as we face Connacht. It will be a tough fixture but it’s one we are all looking forward to as we look to back up the Edinburgh win.”
