BT lends its support to #StayStrongForOws

24th July 2014

Welsh Regional Rugby's new season sponsor BT has stepped in to help the Cardiff Blues and RRW in their new fundraising campaign for injured player Owen Williams - with the launch of an online donation point in association with Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.

Following this week’s launch of Owen’s campaign, BT’s Mydonate, a unique no fee online fundraising service where every penny goes directly to charity, has launched https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/staystrongforows to ensure supporters anywhere can help raise funds simply and quickly by donating online.

Mydonate fast-tracked the online fundraising page launched today (Thurs) and BT Sport will promote the new site during its live coverage of the Welsh Premiership Rugby 7s this weekend.

Ann Beynon, Director BT Wales/Cymru said: “We’re pleased to help support this important campaign for Owen run by the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust which does great work supporting players and their families who have been severely injured playing rugby.”

Chief Executive of the Cardiff Blues Richard Holland said:  “We’ve already had an overwhelming response to the #StayStrongForOws campaign which will raise funds for Owen via the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust and it’s great that our sponsor BT has lent its support so that people can now easily donate online as well as sending in cheques to us.

“Saturday night’s Welsh stage of the Premiership Rugby 7s at the BT Sport Arms Park will be the first major regional rugby event at Owen’s home region and RRW have announced that 50p of every ticket sold will go to the trust.

“With a host of young talent from all four Welsh Regions on show and a fun night out expected in the capital we’re looking forward to a positive evening at our home ground - combining an exciting night of summer rugby action and hopefully plenty of support for our campaign for Owen.”

Fans can also buy specially created #StayStrongForOws wristbands from the Cardiff Blues Store on the night.

The wristbands carry the #StayStrongForOws motto and have been created in gold and navy blue to represent Cardiff Blues and Owen’s home town club Aberdare RFC. Wristbands are available for just £1.50 each.
