Davies: We must be at best to get win

16th January 2014

Boss Phil Davies admits his Cardiff Blues will need to be 'at the top of our game' when they face Exeter Chiefs on Saturday to get a victory that will fire them into the European quarter-finals.

Blues face Aviva Premiership outfit Exeter at the Arms Park (kick-off 3.40pm) knowing a place in the last eight of European competition is up for grabs – with both Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup still a possibility!

Director of Rugby Davies revealed the mood within the camp was buoyant ahead of the biggest game of the season.

But he is under no illusions over the size of the task facing his Blues against a talented Exeter side that wrapped up a 44-29 win when the teams met on the opening day of the tournament at Sandy Park back in October.

“Exeter are a very well organised team, a well-coached team, they have been together for a very long time and they don’t make a lot of errors,” said Davies.

“We know we are going to have to be on our game to match them. But if we do that then I am confident we have enough firepower in our game to win.

“We will have to be at the top of our game to get a result because, even though their results have not been going their way, I know how they work there; they will be motivated to finish the campaign strongly.

“We have a tough game but it is one we are ready for, it will be really exciting for me to see us perform.”
