Jenkins relishing potential playing return

3rd October 2013

Prop star Gethin Jenkins admits 'it's good to be back' as the front row ace pushes for a playing return against Edinburgh Rugby in the RaboDirect PRO12 this Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.05pm).

Director of Rugby Phil Davies has revealed Jenkins could make his first league appearance of the season at the Arms Park after recovering from injury.

And the Wales ace is relishing the chance to potentially be involved after having to watch the opening weeks of the campaign from the sidelines.

“I’m back later than I would have liked, as I wanted to start the season with a bang, and have been watching the boys and seen the results,” said Jenkins.

“But I’m back in full training now and building towards Sunday and hopefully being on that field against Edinburgh.

“The physios have been great and everything has been done to get me back on the field in the best possible shape at the right time. It’s good to be back and I’m looking forward to getting back.

“We’re not happy with the way the season has started, three out of four losses is not acceptable for us. It’s now up to the team and the coaches to put that right,” he added.

“We had a tough game last week against Leinster and the Zebre game was very disappointing for everyone involved. The mentality now is backs against the wall and we need to put in a performance and build on last week.

“We need to stay in games for 80 minutes and really impose ourselves. With the players we have got we need to perhaps impose ourselves more.

“We have spoken about it behind closed doors and we have trained well. Now we need to replicate it on match days because we have the quality to make it happen.”
