Cardiff Arms Park to host Amlin Cup final

17th July 2013

Cardiff Arms Park has been chosen as the venue to host the 2014 Amlin Cup Final on Friday 23 May

The ERC (European Rugby Cup) announced the decision at a press conference on Wednesday, at the Millennium Stadium, which was chosen as the venue for the 2014 Heineken Cup Final.

Speaking of the decision Cardiff Blues CEO Richard Holland said,

“Naturally we are delighted to be hosting such a prestigious match as the Amlin Challenge Cup Final”

“A lot of hard work has gone into upgrading the facilities at the Arms Park following the decision to move back last season.

“The work continues this summer with the installation of the artificial pitch, being awarded The Amlin Final is a massive endorsement of our decision to change to an artificial surface"

“The construction of the new surface is currently ahead of schedule with our first competitive match not until the 23rd of August when we play Sale Sharks.

“I see this as the future of rugby surfaces and I would expect other clubs and potentially national grounds to follow suit”

The French Rugby Federation withdrew from staging the matches in Paris as a result of uncertainty over the availability of the Stade de France. The last time the Millennium Stadium hosted the Heineken Cup final, in 2011, it was the Cardiff City Stadium that housed the second tier Amlin Final.
