Cwmlai Primary School To Perform at Arms Park on Saturday

19th January 2007

Thirty children from Cwmlai Primary School in Tonyrefail, have won a competition run by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and will be singing, ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau,’ before tomorrow's match.

2006 saw the 150th anniversary of the Welsh national anthem and children from throughout the county were involved celebrating the landmark of the song composed by Evan and James James who hailed from Pontypridd.

The pupils have played an active part in the ‘Big Anthem’ celebrations - singing in the classroom, taking part in a competition and celebrating Wales and Welsh people. As part of their project, they researched Welsh heroes throughout history - such as St David, Owain Glyndwr, Evan and James James, Aneurin Bevan – as well as our modern heroes from the worlds of sport and music.

“We are very proud and delighted to have the opportunity to sing the national anthem at Cardiff Arms Park and the children have been very busy practising so that they are word perfect on the day!” Said head teacher Susan Williams.
