Blues' Open Day Attracts Young and Old

12th July 2004

A busy and hectic week for the Blues ended in the perfect way on Sunday when hundreds of families and rugby fans in general turned up at Cardiff Arms Park for the Open Day.

Everything from classic agricultural machinery to the inner secrets of the players' changing rooms were on display as the famous ground was the hotbed of activity for over four hours.

Stalls selling season tickets for the region and membership and travel tickets for the supporters club were equally busy as the excited crowds provided a real buzz ahead of the new season that kicks-off with an away match at Worcester on Friday 13 August.

Commercial manager Tina Tew said, "The Blues' shop has been particularly busy and we have sold a tremendous amount of our new replica kit while the spread of people reserving season tickets suggests that we are attracting a support base from throughout the region."

The success of the Canterbury-manufactured kit laid to the rest an exaggerated press report earlier in the week that there had been a "total recall" of the stock. In fact, four shirts for other clubs were faulty and to safeguard their own high reputation Canterbury offered to recall products from a small batch made in a particular week in June. That problem has now been competely resolved.

Meanwhile, back at the Open Day, another major attraction was the coaching sessions overseen by Gruff Rees and Gary Knowles with the considerable assistance of the majority of the Blues' playing squad.

And just when everyone thought they had seen everything they could possible wish, the afternoon ended in spectacular fashion with Craig Quinnell on the bouncy castle.

A great day was had by all.
